The Two-Strategy System Amazon's Best-Selling Products Use to Get on Page 1

holding a stable top-3 position within 2 weeks.
Running PPC without optimizing for organic ranking is like filling a leaking bucket. You keep adding water, the level stays the same, and the moment you stop pouring, it empties.
This guide, created in partnership with intelliRANK — a one-stop shop for Amazon sellers who want to improve their marketing results — covers two strategies that work together to fix the leak: using PPC data to sharpen your listings, and using structured Product Testing Campaigns to improve the product experience.
Strategy One: Use PPC Data to Drive Smarter Organic Optimization
Your Search Term Report contains something most sellers underuse: months of evidence about which keywords customers actually use to find and buy your product.
Most sellers leverage this data only to manage ads, so they can add negative keywords, adjust bids, or pause underperformers. But the same data can drive your listing optimization, backend keyword strategy, and A+ Content priorities in ways that can improve organic visibility, getting you from position 75 to position 1, as in this case study below:
How to access the report:
- Log into Seller Central and go to Advertising → Measurement & Reporting → Sponsored Ads Reports → Create Report.
- Select Sponsored Products as the campaign type, choose Search Term as the report type, set your date range to the last 30–60 days, and click Run Report.
Sort your data by calculated conversion rate, descending. To calculate the conversion rate, divide the Orders column by the Clicks column for each search term.
Then focus on search terms that meet all of the following:
- At least 20–30 clicks
- Calculated conversion rate of 10% or higher
- ACoS at or below your break-even threshold
- Terms where your product is not already ranking on page 1 organically
These are the keywords worth prioritizing in your listing title, bullet points, A+ Content, and backend search terms. They've already proven they convert paying customers through paid ads, which means they represent genuine demand for your product.
What to do with them:
- Title: Incorporate your top 1–2 converting keywords naturally within the 75-character limit
- Bullet points: Write benefit-driven bullets that include supporting keywords without forcing them
- Backend search terms: Use high-converting terms that didn't fit in visible copy
- A+ Content: Structure comparison modules and use-case sections around the language your converting customers actually use
This is how PPC data becomes a listing optimization asset, and how listing improvements, in turn, make your organic ranking more competitive over time.
Stop wasting time on spreadsheets and start using what the professionals use.
Strategy Two: Structured Product Testing Campaigns
Product Testing Campaigns work by putting your product in front of real people who match your target customer profile, having them evaluate the product and listing experience, and collecting honest insights through a structured survey.
This isn't a new concept. In retail, it's called mystery shopping. Brands have used it for decades to understand how customers actually experience their product.
For Amazon sellers, the equivalent looks like this:
1. Define your target tester profile: demographic, lifestyle, shopping habits, familiarity with your product category. The closer the tester matches your real buyer, the more relevant the feedback.
2. Testers evaluate your product and listing against specific questions:
Product experience:
- Does the product match what was described in the listing?
- What did you like most?
- What issues, if any, did you encounter?
- What would you change or improve?
Listing clarity:
- Was the title clear and relevant to what you were looking for?
- Did the images accurately represent the product?
- Were the bullet points helpful in your decision?
- Did the price feel fair for the quality?
Most sellers don't know what's costing them conversions until it shows up in a one-star review. A tester who tells you your main image doesn't clearly communicate the product's size, or that your bullet points lead with features instead of benefits, is giving you actionable information you can act on before it becomes a public problem.
Fix these things based on tester feedback and your listing can convert better, while it becomes more competitive for organic traffic.

How the Two Strategies Work Together
The connection between PPC data and listing optimization creates a self-reinforcing loop.
1. PPC tells you which keywords convert. Your Search Term Report shows you the terms customers used to find and buy your product. Those are worth prioritizing in your listing.
2. Better listings convert more traffic. When you optimize your listing around converting keywords and customer feedback, your sales can increase, just like in this case study:
3. Add proven organic keywords to exact match PPC. Once a keyword is appearing consistently in your Search Term Report with strong conversion data, build a dedicated exact match Sponsored Products campaign around it. This concentrates your bid on terms you know work, reduces wasted spend on broad match variations, and gives you cleaner performance data to optimize from.
4. Use Manage Your Experiments to validate listing changes. Before applying feedback-driven changes across your whole listing, test the most impactful ones through Amazon's A/B testing tool. This ensures changes actually improve conversion before they go live.
Over time, this cycle builds: better PPC data informs better listings, better listings convert more traffic, higher conversion rates improve organic ranking, and improved organic ranking reduces dependence on paid traffic for every sale.
